Chynna Phillips says there were 'many curses' during 'painful and traumatic' upbringing

Chynna Phillips reflected on difficult feelings wiRead more

Chynna Phillips is working through the trauma of her childhood one day at a time.

The Wilson Phillips singer admitted she's struggling in a relationship with an unnamed family member, which brought up memories from the past as she shared a few anecdotes with fans in a YouTube clip uploaded to her video diary series, "California Preachin'."

"Just like any family, my family has its complex trauma," she said. "We’ve all come out of it in different ways. We all had different experiences with it, and we all did our best with what we were given, and what we were given in many instances was painful and traumatic.

CHYNNA PHILLIPS PREPARES FOR SURGERY TO REMOVE 14-INCH TUMOR FROM HER LEG: ‘JESUS CAN HELP ME’

"We had the tools that we had, and we did the best with what we were given. And there were many blessings in our situation, but there were also many curses and many things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy."

BILLY BALDWIN'S WIFE CHYNNA PHILLIPS SAYS SHE WALKS ON ‘EGGSHELLS,’ DOESN'T WANT TO ‘TRIGGER’ HIM

Chynna, the daughter of The Mamas & The Papas singers John and Michelle Phillips, had previously discussed her difficult childhood in a video with her sister Mackenzie, who claimed she had a consensual sexual relationship with their father.

Mackenzie claimed John raped her when she was 19, and then they began a consensual relationship that lasted 10 years before she became pregnant, according to her 2009 memoir, "High on Arrival." The incest only stopped once she had an abortion.

"It's hard to really quantify how important family is, and how it molds us and how it just shapes us into the people that we are," Chynna said in her video diary. "Families are a beautiful mosaic, and they are a tapestry, and each little patch is important. And I wouldn't throw any one little patch away.

"I feel like my family is so strong and that we’ve persevered in so many ways. We are scarred, and I know for sure that I am scarred. And I have had to lick many wounds, but, you know, I don't think I would change it for anything.

"It’s liberating to be able to say, ‘Chy, it’s all right if you need to take a break right now. The whole world’s not going to collapse.’"

Taking a page from her own book, Phillips is also postponing surgery she had scheduled to remove a 14-inch tumor from her leg.

Weeks ago, Chynna, who has been married to actor Billy Baldwin since 1995, admitted she was terrified of going under the knife but knew it was time to remove the mass in her left leg she's had since she was a little girl.

"I was scheduled to have surgery in just a few weeks, but because of our move and because I booked three Wilson Phillips shows, I just feel like I have too much going on," she shared.

"I’m too overwhelmed, and I don’t want to add a surgery on top of everything that I have going on right now. I think that would just be insanity and not taking care of myself."

Armenia's prime minister in Russia for talks amid strain in ties

On May 8, 2024

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted ArmeniaRead more

Armenia's prime minister visited Moscow and held talks Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid spiraling tensions between the estranged allies.

Putin hosted Nikol Pashinyan for talks following a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union, a Moscow-dominated economic alliance. that they both attended earlier in the day. The negotiations came a day after Putin began his fifth term at a glittering Kremlin inauguration.

ARMENIA'S PRIME MINISTER URGES SWIFT BORDER AGREEMENT TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH AZERBAIJAN

In brief remarks at the start of the talks, Putin said that bilateral trade was growing, but acknowledged "some issues concerning security in the region."

Pashinyan, who last visited Moscow in December, said that "certain issues have piled up since then."

Armenia's ties with its longtime sponsor and ally Russia have grown increasingly strained after Azerbaijan waged a lightning military campaign in September to reclaim the Karabakh region, ending three decades of ethnic Armenian separatists’ rule there.

Armenian authorities accused Russian peacekeepers who were deployed to Nagorno-Karabakh after the previous round of hostilities in 2020 of failing to stop Azerbaijan's onslaught. Moscow, which has a military base in Armenia, has rejected the accusations, arguing that its troops didn’t have a mandate to intervene.

The Kremlin, in turn, has been angered by Pashinyan’s efforts to deepen ties with the West and distance his country from Moscow-dominated security and economic alliances.

Just as Pashinyan was visiting Moscow on Wednesday, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced that the country will stop paying fees to the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a Russia-dominated security pact. Armenia has previously suspended its participation in the grouping as Pashinyan has sought to bolster ties with the European Union and NATO.

Russia was also vexed by Armenia’s decision to join the International Criminal Court, which last year indicted Putin for alleged war crimes connected to the Russian action in Ukraine.

Moscow, busy with the Ukrainian conflict that has dragged into a third year, has publicly voiced concern about Yerevan's westward shift but sought to downplay the differences.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov conceded Tuesday that "there are certain problems in our bilateral relations," but added that "there is a political will to continue the dialogue."

North Macedonia elects first woman president as center-left incumbents suffer historic losses

North Macedonia's Gordana Siljanovska-DavkovaRead more

North Macedonia elected its first woman president Wednesday as the governing Social Democrats suffered historic losses in twin presidential and parliamentary elections.

Conservative-backed Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, a 70-year-old law professor, was declared the winner after receiving nearly 65% support with more than two-thirds of the vote counted in a presidential runoff. "Is there a bigger change than electing a woman as president?" Siljanovska-Davkova told party supporters. "I will stand with women in taking this great step forward, a step towards reform."

NORTH MACEDONIA VOTES IN PRESIDENTIAL RUNOFF, PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

Incumbent Stevo Pendarovski conceded after garnering just over 29% of the vote. Siljanovska-Davkova was backed by the conservative VMRO-DPMNE party, which made sweeping gains on popular discontent over the country’s slow path toward European Union membership and its sluggish economy. A coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE was ahead with nearly 43% in the parliamentary election, while the Social Democrat-led coalition that has held power for the least seven years struggled to hold onto second place with 14.8.% – just ahead of a group of parties led by the ethnic Albanian minority party DUI.

Celebrations in the capital Skopje were muted by a thunderstorm that caused power outages. The conservative landslide win will be followed by power sharing talks for the control of the 120-seat parliament. But Social Democrat leader Dimitar Kovachevski, who served as prime minister from 2022 until early this year, conceded his party's defeat late Wednesday in the parliamentary election and announced that he would stand down after a new leader is selected by the party. Victory for Siljanovska-Davkova makes her the first woman to hold the largely ceremonial post of president since the country gained independence from the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

The monthlong campaign focused on North Macedonia’s slow progress toward joining the 27-nation EU, the rule of law, corruption, fighting poverty and tackling the country’s flat economic growth.

VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski headed a 22-party coalition called "Your Macedonia" that accused opponents of ineptitude and making humiliating compromises in trying to settle disputes with North Macedonia's neighbors. Mickoski, 46, told supporters that the incoming conservative-led government would make fighting corruption its priority. "Every last person who committed a crime and committed corruption will be held accountable," he said. "The people have taught the government its most important lesson and saved their country ... We have regained hope and tonight we have reason to celebrate." NATO member North Macedonia has been a candidate to join the EU since 2005, but was blocked by successive disputes with neighbors Greece and Bulgaria as well as slow progress on some reforms required for membership to advance.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia are also seeking membership.

Skopje resident Gordana Gerasimovski said she was disappointed that the country had been waiting for so long to join the EU, but hoped for real progress now.

"We should have been part of the European Union a long time ago," she said. "This is what we are lacking, but we hope that with time we will get to where we have wanted to be for so long."

More than 2,300 domestic and international observers were authorized to monitor the election.

Biden vows to withhold weapons from Israel if Netanyahu goes forward with Rafah invasion

In an interview with CNN, President Biden said heRead more

President Biden is vowing to withhold weapons from Israel if the Jewish State goes forward with its invasion of Rafah, Hamas' last stronghold in Gaza.

"Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers," Biden told CNN’s Erin Burnett in an interview released Wednesday.

"I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem," Biden said.

BIDEN WARNS NETANYAHU AGAINST RAFAH INVASION AS ISRAEL PREPARES FOR ACTION

Biden clarified that the U.S. will continue sending defensive weapons to Israel, like supplies for Israel's Iron Dome.

"We’re going to continue to make sure Israel is secure in terms of Iron Dome and their ability to respond to attacks that came out of the Middle East recently," Biden told CNN. "But it’s, it’s just wrong. We’re not going to – we’re not going to supply the weapons and artillery shells."

Israel has taken military action in Rafah, but according to Biden, they have yet to cross his red line in entering population centers.

"They haven’t gone into the population centers. What they did is right on the border. And it’s causing problems with, right now, in terms of – with Egypt, which I’ve worked very hard to make sure we have a relationship and help," he said. "I’ve made it clear to Bibi and the war cabinet: They’re not going to get our support, if in fact they go on these population centers."

Biden has been criticized by Republicans after it was revealed last week that his administration was stalling its shipments of weapons to Israel even after Congress passed its foreign aid package.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas war appears to be making a major impact on the upcoming presidential election. Biden has faced intense backlash from the progressive left for providing aid to Israel, leaving voters in critical swing states like Michigan threatening to stay home in November or to cast their ballot for another candidate.

Anti-Israel protests have erupted across the country, particularly on college campuses, where chants like "Genocide Joe" are heard.

Biden administration to propose narrow asylum regulation as border crisis remains top issue: report

On May 8, 2024

The Department of Homeland Security is believed toRead more

The Biden administration is reportedly planning to announce an asylum regulation as early as Thursday that would allow officials to remove some illegal immigrants earlier in the asylum process. Although it is far short of broader changes envisioned by either the administration or Republicans.

The Department of Homeland Security is planning to issue a regulation that would apply denials to eligibility for those claiming asylum at the initial screening stage at the border rather than during the interview stage, Politico reported.

Should migrants fail to meet those criteria, it would allow officials to expedite their removal. Officials told the outlet it would allow officials to move more quickly on those who are national security or public safety threats.

BIDEN PLAN TO EXTEND OBAMACARE ELIGIBILITY TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GETS PUSHBACK IN CONGRESS: ‘MADNESS’

It is unclear to what extent the rule would change the situation at the border. The rule would likely only apply to those who are screened for an asylum claim. The Biden administration last year implemented a broader asylum rule that makes illegal immigrants ineligible for asylum if they have crossed multiple countries without claiming asylum. Since that rule was enacted, the border saw a monthly record for border crossings in December, although numbers have since decreased.

The rule would also be far short of sweeping changes proposed by the Biden administration, which has called on Congress to provide additional funding and a sweeping immigration reform bill it introduced on day one to tackle what it says is a "broken" system.

More recently, it has called for the passage of a bipartisan border agreement that would provide additional funding and implement an expulsion mechanism that would come into play if encounters rose above an average of 5,000 a day. Conservatives rejected the agreement, arguing it normalized already excessive levels of illegal immigration.

"Look folks, it's been a simple choice," Biden said at the State of the Union in March. "We can fight about fixing the border, or we can fix it. I'm ready to fix it. Send me the border bill now."

It has also been reported by multiple outlets that the administration is considering the use of a law known as 212(f), which allows the president to suspend the entry of foreign nationals if he determines it is not in the best interest of the country.

Republicans have said the Biden administration can fix the crisis by itself by ending its current policies and resuming Trump-era policies they believe largely solved the border crisis. They point to border wall construction, the Remain-in-Mexico policy and increased interior enforcement.

Republicans in the House also passed their own sweeping border security package last year, which includes additional funding and measures to shut down parole and the entry of migrants into the interior. But that bill has failed to make progress in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green was unimpressed by reports of the rule and downplayed how effective it would be.

MASSIVE NUMBER OF MIGRANTS FROM THIS FOREIGN ADVERSARY ARE ILLEGALLY ENTERING US

"This rule appears to be an unserious, politically motivated attempt to address a significant problem the Biden administration itself created. The proposed rule will reportedly only apply to illegal aliens who are believed to be either a national security or public safety threat," he said in a statement.

"The rule will not impact or reduce the millions of illegitimate asylum claims being filed by economic migrants. The department currently cannot properly vet the vast majority of illegal aliens crossing the border, as numerous tragic reports from our communities make clear. The Biden administration, however, would have us believe that vetting under this rule will somehow be effective."

"All that migrants will have to do is say the magic words to get to their credible fear interview. Nothing will change."

Police break up another protest by pro-Palestinian activists at the University of Amsterdam

In sometimes violent confrontations, police broke up a protest by pro-Palestinian activists at the University of Amsterdam Wednesday in a second straight day of unrest over the war in Gaza.

After police ended a blockade on university grounds, hundreds of demonstrators moved to a nearby square to continue protesting late into the evening, demanding an end to the war. Some asked the university to sever academic relations with Israel.

ANTI-ISRAEL ENCAMPMENT SPROUTS UP AT UNIVERSITY OF AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS POLICE IMMEDIATELY TAKE ACTION

It was unclear if and how many people were injured during the scuffles and how many protesters were detained by police.

Also, at Utrecht University, some 45 kilometers (30 miles) to the south, students occupied a university building to protest Israeli actions in its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Student protests have been gaining momentum across Europe, following similar actions in the U.S. universities where several encampments have spread out.

The war started after the Palestinian militant groups attacked the southern of Israel, killing 1,200 people in a surprise attack and taking around 250 hostage. Israel's' retaliatory military operation has killed more than 34,700 Palestinians, according to local health officials, and has devastated the Gaza Strip.

Pirates call up top prospect Paul Skenes after Triple-A domination

The wait is over for Paul Skenes, the Pittsburgh Pirates' top prospect, to make his major league debut.

The Pirates are calling up Skenes from Triple-A Indianapolis, announcing via social media video he will make his big league debut May 11 at home against the Chicago Cubs.

Pirates fans have been clamoring to see Skenes, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 MLB Draft out of LSU, in the big leagues since the start of the season. Despite a solid spring training, the Pirates thought it best for him to begin the season in Triple-A.

Skene's girlfriend, social media sensation and LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, has been leading the hype train in hopes the Pirates called the right-hander up.

She hinted it might be happening after posting a No. 30 Pirates jersey on her SnapChat account with a black heart emoji in the picture Sunday. It led many to wonder if Skenes was going to make his start Monday in Triple-A as scheduled.

PIRATES' PAUL SKENES STILL ‘SCHEDULED’ FOR MINOR LEAGUE START AS OLIVIA DUNNE LEADS HYPE ABOUT CALL UP

He did make that start against the Buffalo Bisons Monday, and it didn’t go according to plan. Skenes gave up his first home run of the year to Will Robertson, though he ended up striking out four batters and being pulled after 66 pitches.

Still, the Pirates like what they see.

"He’s been checking just about every box since the season started and responding incredibly well," Pirates GM Ben Cherington told Audacy’s 93.7 The Fan Sunday.

Skenes has been mowing down the competition at Triple-A and owned a 0.99 ERA over his first seven starts despite Monday's hiccup.

Skenes has given up just 17 hits over 27⅓ innings with three earned runs allowed. He’s also struck out 45 batters while walking eight.

Not only is Skenes the Pirates' top prospect, but MLB.com has him ranked the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball after he finished with a 13-2 record during LSU's College World Series run in 2023. He was a shoo-in to be drafted first overall by the Pirates, and they gave him a record $9.2 million signing bonus when he inked his first contract.

So, it won't just be Pirates fans looking out for May 11 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. All of baseball will be watching to see how Skenes performs on the biggest stage in the sport.

White House 'strongly opposes' GOP push to stop non-citizens being counted on census

The White House "strongly opposes" an efRead more

The White House says it "strongly opposes" a congressional effort to put a citizenship question on the census to prevent non-citizens being counted for congressional apportionment, warning that it would be costly and "make it more difficult to obtain accurate data."

The Equal Representation Act has been introduced in the House and Senate and would require a citizenship question to be put on the decennial census asking whether the respondent is a citizen, a resident non-citizen or an illegal immigrant. The House was due to vote on the bill later Wednesday.

The bill would then require that the census not count those who are non-citizens for the apportionment of congressional districts. Currently, everyone who participates in the census, including resident non-citizens and illegal immigrants, is counted for redistricting.

SENATE BILL WOULD PUT CITIZENSHIP QUESTION ON CENSUS, STOP NON-CITIZENS BEING COUNTED FOR REDISTRICTING

The bill would apply to the census conducted in 2030 and comes amid concerns from Republicans that Democrats will benefit from the historic migrant crisis at the southern border that has surged migrants into the U.S. and across the country — including in blue cities and states like Chicago, New York and California.

But the White House's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said in a statement this week that it "strongly opposes" the bill, "which would preclude the Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau from performing its constitutionally mandated responsibility to count the number of persons in the United States in the decennial census."

"[The bill] would increase the cost of conducting the census and make it more difficult to obtain accurate data," the statement said. "It would also violate the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, which requires that the number of seats in the House of Representatives ‘be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State.…’"

BIDEN PLAN TO EXTEND OBAMACARE ELIGIBILITY TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GETS PUSHBACK IN CONGRESS: ‘MADNESS’

Republicans who had introduced the legislation in both chambers had argued instead that the bill would prevent U.S. votes being diluted by illegal immigrants.

"It is unconscionable that illegal immigrants and non-citizens are counted toward congressional district apportionment and our electoral map," Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., said in January. "While people continue to flee Democrat-run cities, desperate Democrats are back-filling the mass exodus with illegal immigrants so that they do not lose their seats in Congress or their electoral votes for the presidency, hence artificially boosting their political power and in turn diluting the power of other Americans’ votes."

"Incentivizing illegal immigration and exploiting our democracy to skew the number of congressional seats or electoral votes for the presidency is immoral and a sure path to the downfall of our nation. Only American citizens can vote, and only American citizens should be counted when determining federal representation," Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., who introduced the bill in the House, said.

The bill represents one of a number of measures introduced by Republicans to tackle what they fear could be the electoral consequences of the historic crisis at the border, which saw more than 2.4 million migrant encounters in FY 24, alone.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., led a press conference to introduce legislation proposed by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, that would require proof of U.S. citizenship in order to be able to register to vote in federal elections.

Gambling bill stalls in Alabama Legislature during session's final hours

A bill aimed at significantly liberalizing AlabamaRead more

Gambling legislation remains stalled in the Alabama Senate with members expressing doubt that it will get another vote in the closing hours of the legislative session.

The session ends Thursday and supporters have been unable to break a stalemate in the state Senate after the measure initially failed by one vote last week. Supporters had hoped to get the bill back for another vote but said that seems increasingly unlikely to happen as the session winds down.

Republican Rep. Chris Blackshear, the bill sponsor, said it looks like it would take a "miracle of Biblical proportion" to get the bill taken up in the Senate in the session’s final two days.

ALABAMA LAWMAKERS EYE GAMBLING COMPROMISE AS LEGISLATIVE SESSION NEARS ITS END

"I just hope the senators that voted no and couldn’t get on board take time to drive around the state and see for themselves, the problems we have in all 67 counties," Blackshear said Wednesday.

The stalled conference committee proposal would authorize a state lottery and allow "electronic games of chance" including slot machines and video poker, but not table games, at seven locations. The Alabama House of Representatives voted 72-29 for the conference committee proposal, exceeding the 63 votes required to win approval in the 105-member chamber. The measure failed by one vote in the Senate, where 21 votes were required.

Republican Sen. Garlan Gudger, a member of the conference committee, said Tuesday evening that the outlook is increasingly gloomy. "I don’t think it’s coming back up," Gudger said.

However, Republican Rep. Andy Whitt, who led a group of legislators who worked on the legislation, said he remains optimistic.

"I always remain hopeful until the last day," Whitt said. "It’s up to the Senate."

The conference committee opposed the compromise after the House and Senate approved different versions of the bill. The sweeping House-passed plan would have allowed a lottery, sports betting and up to 10 casinos in the state. The state Senate scaled back that proposal.

Supporters were aiming for the first public vote on gambling in 25 years. Voters in 1999 rejected a lottery proposed by then-Gov. Don Siegelman.

Denver migrants refuse to leave encampment, send mayor list of demands

An encampment of migrants in Denver has reportedlyRead more

A group of illegal immigrants in Denver is refusing to leave encampments until the city meets its demands.

The migrants published a document with 13 specific demands before they acquiesce to Denver Human Services’ request to leave the encampments and move to more permanent shelters funded by the city.

"At the end of the day, what we do not want is families on the streets of Denver," Jon Ewing, a spokesman for Denver Human Services, told Fox 31.

The list sent to Mayor Mike Johnston included requests for provisions of "fresh, culturally appropriate" food, no time limits on showers and free immigration lawyers, the outlet reported.

DENVER CITY OFFICIAL CAUGHT ON CAMERA BEGGING MIGRANTS TO LEAVE, HEAD TO CHICAGO, NYC

The migrants insisted that if these are not met, they will not leave their tent community.

The current encampment is situated "near train tracks and under a bridge," Fox 31 noted, adding that it has been there for the last couple of weeks.

Further details of the demands read, "Migrants will cook their own food with fresh, culturally appropriate ingredients provided by the City instead of premade meals – rice, chicken, flour, oil, butter, tomatoes, onions, etc… Shower access will be available without time limits & can be accessed whenever… Medical professional visits will happen regularly & referrals/connections for specialty care will be made as needed."

The migrants also insisted they get "connection to employment support, including work permit applications for those who qualify," as well as "Consultations for each person/family with a free immigration lawyer."

Additionally, the migrants demanded privacy within the shelter once moved there and, "No more verbal or physical or mental abuse will be permitted from the staff, including no sheriff sleeping inside & monitoring 24/7 – we are not criminals & won’t be treated as such."

DENVER MAYOR PLEADS FOR NATIONALLY COORDINATED EFFORT ON MIGRANT CRISIS AS CITY NEARS ‘BREAKING POINT’

The demands were sent following the Denver government obtaining a petition to have the migrants moved, according to the outlet.

Ewing told Fox 31 the city just wants "to get families to leave that camp and come inside," noting its offer will give migrants "three square meals a day" and the freedom to cook.

He also said the government is willing to work with people to compromise and help them figure out what kind of assistance they qualify for.

Ultimately, Ewing said, the city wants to work with migrants to determine, "What might be something that is a feasible path for you to success that is not staying on the streets of Denver?"

The Denver mayor has been under pressure from the city’s ongoing migrant crisis, making headlines and receiving stiff backlash earlier this year for proposing budget cuts to the city’s government, including cuts to the city’s police force, to fund more money for dealing with the city’s migrant crisis.

The city of Denver did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

'Rust' star Alec Baldwin files 'Hail Mary' motions to throw out involuntary manslaughter indictment: expert

On May 8, 2024

Alec Baldwin's defense filed two new motionsRead more

Alec Baldwin is fighting his involuntary manslaughter indictment with two new motions to dismiss.

Baldwin's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the indictment for failure to allege a criminal offense and an additional motion to dismiss the indictment with prejudice based on the state's destruction of evidence. Both court documents, obtained by Fox News Digital, were filed on Monday.

The prosecution has failed to show that the "30 Rock" actor even committed a crime, Baldwin's legal team argued. His lawyers pointed out that the prosecution admitted the "prospect of live ammunition" being present on the "Rust" set was "incomprehensible." Additionally, the filing noted it was the armorer's responsibility to ensure the gun didn't contain live rounds.

"With no awareness that the firearm might contain live rounds, Baldwin had no reason to believe — zero — that his manipulation of the firearms could lead to death, let alone a belief that his alleged actions posed a substantial risk to Hutchins."

ALEC BALDWIN'S ‘RUST’ SPECIAL PROSECUTOR STEPS DOWN AS COLLEAGUE DENIES ‘INFIGHTING’ AT DA'S OFFICE

Baldwin's lawyers also brought up the destroyed firearm. The Pietta 45 Colt revolver replica was destroyed during testing conducted by the FBI at the request of the prosecution. The "intentional" destruction of the gun by the prosecution keeps Baldwin from having a fair trial, according to the court docs.

"Simply put, there is no way to undo what the government has done," his lawyers wrote. "Although Baldwin's attorneys can make their best effort to persuade a jury that the defects or modifications to the sear and hammer notches — including the virtually nonexistent full-cock notch — preexisted the FBI's testing, Baldwin has forever lost the chance to probe that fact without doubt, because the government did not even take the basic step of documenting the condition of the firearm's internal components before destroying it. And Baldwin's counsel will never be able to test the firearm in its original state to determine whether pulling the hammer would have resulted in a discharge."

‘RUST’ STAR ALEC BALDWIN'S LEGAL TEAM SLAMMED FOR ‘COUNTLESS LIES,’ ‘MANIPULATION’ AS ACTOR BATTLES INDICTMENT

Baldwin's three motions to dismiss the indictment are his team just "swinging for the fences" and a "Hail Mary," former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani said.

"No. 1, there's a small chance that it's granted," Rahmani told Fox News Digital. "Two, unless you make the motion, you lose the opportunity to appeal that issue."

"So, what you want to do in cases like this is throw everything out there, take a kitchen sink approach," he added. "So, if for some reason the motion is denied, you get the opportunity to relitigate it on appeal."

Rahmani explained Baldwin's "high-priced" law firm is trying to "paper the prosecution" with multiple motions.

"They're just going to continue to file and try to paper the prosecution, which is understaffed and overwhelmed," he said. "This type of law motion work puts them on their heels and creates more work for them."

Baldwin was indicted on two counts — involuntary manslaughter, negligent use of a firearm, or, in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter without due caution or circumspection — on Jan. 19.

In his original motion to dismiss, Baldwin's team argued the prosecution failed to present crucial evidence to the grand jury.

"Enough is enough," the court documents stated. "This is an abuse of the system, and an abuse of an innocent person whose rights have been trampled to the extreme."

Special prosecutors called out Baldwin's legal team for lying and manipulation in their reply to the actor's original motion to dismiss.

"The defendant's motion to dismiss is predictably false, misleading, and histrionic misrepresentation of the facts and circumstances of the history of the case," the prosecution's filing said. "The two special prosecutors who have been assigned the prosecution of Mr. Baldwin have experienced near countless lies and manipulation from the defense for more than one year. In addition, we have, and certainly will continue to be, the subject of the defendant's contrived and unwarranted personal attacks."

The 316-page motion mirrored Baldwin's lengthy request to dismiss and focused on giving a "factual and procedural history" of the case.

Baldwin and the prosecution will face off in court as jury selection is set to begin July 9.

House squashes Marjorie Taylor Greene's motion to oust Speaker Johnson

The House of Representatives squashed an effort by Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Thomas Massie, R-Ky., to force a House-wide vote on Speaker Mike Johnson's ouster.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., appeared to catch most congressional watchers by surprise when she moved to force a vote on her motion to vacate the chair, the procedural move that would allow for the vote. She noticed her resolution as "privileged," meaning House leaders had two legislative days to take it up.

But her bluff was called immediately when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., rose to call for a vote on tabling Greene's motion – which effectively kills it before the vote on Johnson's ouster itself.

Johnson got overwhelming Democratic and Republican support for the table vote, which passed 359 to 43, averting a vote on her motion. Just 11 Republicans voted against tabling the measure, along with 32 Democrats.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE FILES MOTION TO OUST SPEAKER JOHNSON

On the Republican side, Johnson won the support of 196 members, while 163 Democrats also voted to shield him.

The House GOP side of the chamber erupted in cheers when her move was squashed.

"I want to say that I appreciate the show of confidence from my colleagues to defeat this misguided effort. That is certainly what it was," Johnson told reporters after the vote. "I've said from the beginning, and I've made clear here every day, I intend to do my job. I intend to do what I believe to be the right thing, which is what I was elected to do. And I'll let the chips fall where they may."

Greene, R-Ga., declined to say if she planned to force another vote but accused Johnson of being aligned with Democrats after they helped save his job.

"That's not something that I've said," she said when asked if she would try a repeat. "I think today it has proven the uniparty is alive as well. And the Democrats now control Speaker Johnson. That was something that everybody suspected all along. They just voted to save him. And I think that's the message."

Greene has been threatening to force a vote on taking Johnson's gavel since late March in protest of his handling of government funding and foreign aid. .

Her resolution, known as a motion to vacate the chair, will now have to be voted on or tabled after Greene noticed it as "privileged" on Wednesday night – meaning House leaders have two legislative days to take it up.

The Republican side of the House chamber erupted in boos as Greene listed off her gripes against Johnson, prompting Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., to shout, "The House is not in order – and is about to fall into chaos," prompting some sparse laughs from their side of the chamber.

The vote is expected to be close but ultimately fail, with both Republicans and Democrats voicing opposition to a move that would effectively paralyze Congress until a new speaker is found.

The vote is a culmination of six months' worth of frustration from the most right-wing conservatives in Johnson's conference, who have felt sidelined by him on nearly all critical legislation including foreign aid and government funding, during which they demanded he leverage a government shutdown to force the Democrats who controlled the Senate and White House to pass Republican policies.

HOUSE DEMS SAY THEY’LL BLOCK MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE FROM OUSTING SPEAKER JOHNSON

Greene's push got two more backers in Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., after Johnson ushered a foreign aid bill along bipartisan lines that includes $61 billion for Ukraine.

But it's largely fallen flat among the House GOP, where even Johnson's critics have shown little appetite for going through another three weeks of chaos like what followed the ouster of ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in October – particularly six months out from an election.

With just a razor-thin majority of two seats, it would take little dissent for Johnson to lose the top House job if it fell along party lines. Eight House Republicans had voted with all Democrats to oust McCarthy in early October.

Unlike McCarthy's case, however, House Democrats have pledged to come to Johnson's aid by voting to table the resolution if it came up – a vote to table a measure, which essentially kills it, is a procedural hurdle that allows Democrats to block Johnson's ouster without having to actually vote on whether to fire him.

Johnson's critics seized on the left-wing support as evidence that the Louisiana Republican was not representing the interests of his own party.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE CALLS JOHNSON'S FOREIGN AID PACKAGE HIS '3RD BETRAYAL' OF AMERICAN PEOPLE

"The entire Democrat Party is lining up behind Mike Johnson. First, it was the entire leadership team for the Democrats. Now, Nancy Pelosi, who impeached President Trump TWICE, has given Johnson her seal of approval. What deal has been made??" Greene wrote on X on Monday along with a video of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., backing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' decision to help Johnson.

The move could save Johnson's job, but could also cost him some Republican support.

Massie told Fox News Digital last week when asked about how much GOP backing he expected, "I think it's a kinetic situation. And Hakeem and the entire Democrat leadership team endorsing Mike Johnson is going to cause a lot of people who weren't with us, to be with us."

Johnson, for his part, has repeatedly told reporters that he's not afraid of Greene's threats and has insisted his focus is on governing.
